Around the Edges Meets Refined

(Meet Your Match #2) by Rachael Anderson

For Noah Mackie, life is finally back on track. He has a great support system, a promised promotion is on its way, and he’s finally getting the hang of this single father thing. But when the job falls through and his neighbor’s matchmaking efforts become more aggressive, Noah is in for yet another unwanted detour. With his career and two spirited daughters to worry about, he doesn’t have time for dating—especially not someone like Cassie Ellis, his girls’ beautiful and sophisticated dance instructor, who is about as open and approachable as a brick wall.

Rough around the Edges Meets Refined is about two people who think they know exactly what they want but who have no idea what they really need. It’s about learning that people aren’t always what they seem and that sometimes life’s detours take you exactly where you need to go.

Excerpt

The moment Kajsa saw Noah through the open door, she yelled out, “Daddy!” and came charging his way. Adelynn soon followed. As the girls barreled into him, Noah’s gaze caught Cassie’s briefly before she looked away. Another parent engaged her in a conversation as Kajsa grabbed Noah’s hand.

“C’mon, Dad, let’s go. I’m starving,” Kajsa said.

“Me too,” said Adelynn, grabbing his other hand.

Noah resisted, shooting Cassie another glance. “Why don’t you change out of your dance shoes first?”

“We can do that in the car. C’mon.” Adelynn continued to tug.

“But it’s wet outside, and you don’t want to ruin your new shoes, right? And besides, I need to ask your teacher something before we go.”

“What?” said Kajsa.

“Just a question,” he said. “So go take off your shoes and—”

“Miss Cassie!” Adelynn shouted across the room, interrupting the conversation between Cassie and another parent.

Cassie looked her way. “Yes, Adelynn?”

“My dad needs to ask you a question.”

The room became quiet, and all eyes came to rest on Noah.

Book Blast & Giveaway: Tears for a World

Tears for a worldTears for a World by Alexander Fernandez
The holy artifact bonded around Marisylia Malludar’s neck gives her incredible physical and magical powers—at a price. The bloody piece of vein is consuming Marisylia’s body inch by inch, her skeletal hands and feet only the beginning of a slow death. A cruel sorceress and her assassins are on the hunt for Marisylia to steal the artifact. Religious fanatics, volatile and unstable in their blind faith, also seek her to exploit the vein’s most dangerous purpose—liberating the erratic Creator of the World, Lysielle, from her 1,000 year incarceration. With the vein the key to Lysielle’s freedom, Marisylia must use her abilities to survive long enough to find Lysielle first. Then her most grim challenge awaits—deciding if the Creator has truly repented for attempting to destroy all life. To achieve global peace, Marisylia must discover faith in the unpredictable Lysielle or rely on her own instincts to set the world’s fate.

Excerpt:
Marisylia blinked and rubbed milk out of her eyes, but the mob wasn’t finished. A stiff hand shoved her from behind and she stumbled against the table. Unfinished slices of pie and rolls of bread pelted her.

With nowhere to hide, she dove into the horde and tried to shove her way out. Most of the people only yelled insults as they let her pass. Others bumped her roughly with their shoulders, tried to trip her, or pushed her around so she bounced back and forth between pairs of hands.

One woman caught Marisylia and carefully steadied her. She peered into the woman’s eyes, one friendly person amid the riled swarm. The lady smiled softly, then suddenly spit into Marisylia’s face.

When the saliva splattered her cheek, Marisylia stopped caring why the citizens acted like this. Whether due to fear of the religious power, worry that it would infest Three Fingers, or simply senseless anger, none of it mattered anymore since the time to quit had arrived.

All of her determination to succeed had been ripped to shreds by the crowd. Each hand that shoved, every object that struck, drained her enthusiasm. Her devotion to the religion had drowned in the woman’s spit. It was all too much. Marisylia didn’t have Milick’s iron skin or Shri Lilyn’s boldness. She had nothing, only the desire to run away and forget everything.

STARRED REVIEW BOOKLIST

“If somebody doesn’t make a movie out of this book, there’s something wrong with the world. This could have been played as an out-and-out slapstick comedy, but instead the author approaches the story like a character study: a portrait of a man with the best intentions in the world watching those intentions collide with reality. It’s a steamroller of a story, starting small, with George’s idea, and getting bigger and bigger as George tries to put the elements together, as his obsession takes him further and further away from reality. Beautifully done.”
~David Pitts Booklist
“The author marries the everyday dramas found in the novels of Tom Perrotta and Nick Hornby to the high camp of Carl Hiaasen or Dave Barry. Adults looking for a funny holiday-themed tale that doesn’t lose its sense of wonder in the face of realism will find a treat here. A lovingly crafted comedy about the madness that fatherhood inspires.”
~Kirkus Reviews
Best-selling author Hazelgrove (e.g., Ripples; Tobacco Sticks) captures the human need to believe in something good. This book will satisfy readers looking for a happy Christmas story.
~Library Journal
“Hazelgrove’s lively improbable narrative will appeal to the readers in the mood for holiday fiction.”
~Publishers Weekly

Blast & Giveaway: Beam n Read Reading Light

Beam n Read

Purchase your own Beam N Read Reading Light from
AMAZON

Makes a great gift or stocking stuffer!

Beam n Read Hands-Free Light delivers a wide & bright light that lights up 2 book pages and doesn’t disturb others. It’s a true reading light that works with all printed books, Kindles and other eReaders (whether naked, skinned, or covered), PLUS newspapers, magazines, newsletters, loose documents, and other items that can’t support a clip-on light. Worn around the neck, there’s no need to shift it when reading paperbacks.

Included are two 2 special Relaxation Filters: BNR Orange for a softer, warmer light that blocks energizing blue light (especially useful when reading to relax in bed); BNR Red to block blue light and reduce ambient light for sensitive bed partners.

Standard alkaline AA batteries (not included) last an extra long 100 hours, far longer than flashlights and clip-on lights resulting in a lower cost to use (and fewer batteries in the trash). This light is still bright when others have gone dim. Save batteries for when you’re on the go with the optional USB/AC Power Kit with 12 ft of cable that lets you plug into the included USB/AC adapter. Or plug into a USB car adapter/charger, or a computer USB port, or a USB adapter/charger for cell phones, etc.

In addition to reading, this 3 LED hands-free light is great for crafts, travel, and walking in dim or dark places such as an attic, basement, or around the house during a power outage. Use it for writing journals, working, camping, changing diapers at night, and a lot more.

Testimonials

“I am not sure how I lived without this product all these years. I am a massive reader, especially at night in bed… From the first moment I started using the Beam n Read light, I could read my books so much easier and it didn’t keep my husband awake…We give this 5 paws, and if my scale went higher I would rate it higher!” – Leslie, StoreybookReviews.com

“I’ve tried using other book lights before, but they have always been a real fail for me… the Beam N’ Read Personal Light…met all of my expectations and more!… One of my favorite things about this product were the “Relaxation Filters”. They come with an orange one that is a softer light that is perfect to help me fall asleep faster. …. This product is highly recommended for all readers and crafters. I like the Beam n’ Read so much, that I’m buying one for my mom for Christmas.” – Sheila, WhyNotBecauseISaidso.blogspot.com

“The Beam n Read personal light is much more than just a book light… I have tried so many different types of reading lights, several of the clip types, one head lamp, and a few that slide on your page like a paperclip. This has been the best light that I have tried to far.” – Mary, BookHounds.net

“I really love this Beam n Read! It is very bright when you use it without the filters, but I love using the filters. The orange filter is my favorite. It really soothes me when I’m reading in bed. If you’ve got someone in bed with you who is trying to sleep, use the red filter as it also blocks ambient light. This is really convenient to use because it is totally hands free. You just hang it around your neck and start reading. I feel like it is really better for my eyes to use this too… If you are a reader, I highly recommend trying this product! I think you’ll love it!” – Christy, ChristysCozyCorners.com

Cover Reveal: Finding Laila by T.K. Rapp

Finding Laila

By: T.K. Rapp

Release Date: Jan 13, 2015

Find on Goodreads

Joey, Cole, Haden and Braxton have been a constant in my life since I was five, and I have loved being one of the guys.

I’ve been cheerleader.

I’ve been study partner.

I’ve been listener.

When we’re young, we don’t realize the profound impact certain people will have on our lives. I had no idea twelve years ago I’d meet four boys who would turn out to be my best friends, my soul mates – my barmy.

Now school is almost done, our last summer together is drawing closer, and I’m trying to hold on to what we have while I still can. After this we’ll have to say goodbye to each other, as our choices will take our lives in different directions. But I don’t know if our friendship can survive once secrets and surprises begin revealing themselves to us at every turn.

When it’s all said and done, will our friendships remain unbreakable? Or will our once strong bond prove to be weaker than we anticipated?

Letting go is harder than I thought, but some changes are necessary.

And finding Laila…finding myself…may be the greatest journey of all.

“I guess we know the flavor of the week,” a female voice says from behind me, causing several others with her to laugh.

I know they’re talking about me. They’re always talking about me. It’s been this way since I was in seventh grade, but I’ve made it my mission to ignore it.

“She certainly gets around,” another voice chimes in.

Cole is sitting to my left, Haden to my right and both guys are staring at the field, but neither is paying attention to the game. I watch out of my peripheral as Haden’s forearm muscles tense and relax while Cole bites his lip. They are intently focused on the words being thrown at me, but keep quiet for the time being.

“She must be good because they all stick around,” a guy’s voice states in salacious tone that makes me nauseous.

I don’t wait for another barb to be hurled my way, even though I know it’s coming. I throw my arm around Haden and whisper something in his ear before kissing his cheek then turning to do the same to Cole. I lean forward to see Joey, who is next to Cole and give him a wink, “I’ll get you later, Baby.”

He shakes his head and laughs, “Why must you stir the pot?”

Haden smiles – proud of my display – and it pushes me on.

I turn to look at the three classmates who have stopped chattering long enough to watch my little show, jaws hanging open. I shrug my shoulders, and answer Joey, “I’m just giving them what they want.”

One of the girls, Kasey, looks at me and raises a brow, “And what about Braxton?”

I glance over to Cole who’s listening to everything, but is still watching the game. He smirks, as if he knows what’s coming and a smile of my own begins to break.

They are gawking at me when I turn and wet my lips before winking at the girls.

“If he wins, we all win,” I say huskily.

“Touchdown!” The announcer yells and the crowd jumps to their feet to celebrate. All but the three jerks behind me.

T.K. Rapp was born and raised in Texas. She would have stuck around there forever, but her husband was in the U.S. Navy, so they moved every 18 months. However, she didn’t mind, because she had the opportunity to live on both coasts and met amazing people along the way.

Now, finally settled back in Texas…for good, she is able to pursue her writing. When she’s not at her desk, she enjoys being with her family, visiting with friends or just watching movies. But mostly just being with the family.

Excerpt

~Ryan

The biggest moment of my life found me unexpectedly. It crept up softly, and settled around me like a fuzzy blanket. A mere whisper; it hit me like a sledgehammer. At the time, I knew it was significant, but I didn’t realize just how those few seconds would change absolutely everything: how one brief glance could leave such an indelible stamp on the remainder of my life. It would become a contradiction; an unstoppable force that would send me reeling out of my control, churning and shredding my emotions, but create the most incredible contentment I’d ever feel. Contentment that could wrap me up in a warm, safe place or devastate me to the core and leave my heart in shambles. It would become years of want and pain, lust and love… It would hurt like the deepest hell, but become the most euphoric and precious ecstasy I’d ever know. I’d never forget that day, that moment; that glance.

It would wreck me. It would make me.

Return to Chelsey FallsReturn to Chelsey Falls

After the death of his mother, fourteen year old, Wyatt Barnes was sent to live with his grandparents in Chelsey Falls, Washington. That summer was filled with new friends and new adventures until his life was turned upside down for a second time.
Almost ten years later, an offer to teach at the high school in Chelsey Falls, brings Wyatt back to the small town. Is he getting a second chance to make amends with Alexa, the young woman that had befriended him?
Meanwhile, Wyatt’s sudden reappearance in town sends Alexa’s life into a tailspin. Alexa can’t help but wonder if Wyatt has finally found the peace he so desperately needed. Although apprehensive about opening old wounds, Alexa knows she can’t avoid Wyatt forever. Could what started out as a crush so long ago become more than that now? Or is it just too late?
Return to Chelsey Falls is a heartwarming story of second chances and forgiveness.

Praise for the Book:

Alisa says: Good read! I enjoyed the story and the characters. The author’s description and character development allowed the reader to get into the story easily and quickly. A fabulous clean, good story about following your heart and not giving up.

Lauren says: The best part of the story for me were the characters and their development. I kept thinking it was going to be predictable but it had enough surprises and twists to feel refreshing and creative.

SStew says: Great read! I loved getting the story from two different perspectives and how it went back and forth from present to past. If you like this genre it is a great book from a first time author. I’ll look forward to her future releases.

Excerpt:

“Need any help, Lexa?”

“It’s A-lexa,” she said, dragging out the A at the beginning of her name. She threw her backpack over her shoulder, gathered her lunch and started for the junior high.

“Yeah, but I think I’ll call you Lexa.” I hurried to her side and flashed her a smile.

She shook her head, another tiny smile flickering across her face. She was cute when she was irritated.

I followed her to her locker, leaning against the one next to hers. I hadn’t made any friends yet and Lexa intrigued me. She slammed her locker shut.

“Did you need something?”

There was that irritated look again.

Lexa and I had History together after lunch. “I wanted to make sure you made it to class okay.” I thought I saw another smile as she started down the hall without answering.

“This is so nice,” I shouted into the busy hall. “Just you and me walking to class together.” She snorted, quickly covering her mouth, but not before I saw a speck of spit fly through the air.

“Real funny, Wyatt.” She laughed and her face turned bright red. I wasn’t sure if she was embarrassed by the flying spit or by the fact that she actually knew my name.

“You know my name? Have we met?”

“Maybe you haven’t noticed, but every day Mr. Kline has to say, ‘Wyatt, wake up!’”

I liked her even more. She had spunk. I laughed as we arrived at the classroom, but my laughter was cut short. I’d forgotten something. I had my soccer ball in my hands and no backpack.

“Hey, can I borrow a pencil?” I hoped she didn’t think I was a big dork, standing there with just my soccer ball.
